Arkive leapt into the shallow part of the Haiku River, letting the water soak him. Expelling a joyful yip from his jowls, he splashed is forepaws. The young African Wild Dog currently held play high on his priority list.
Suddenly. something else caught his gaze. Some thing was moving further along the stream. Climbing onto the shore, he trotted along the rivers edge until he saw a small group of salmon. The water was deep, about twice as deep as Arkive was tall. Still, ther was no current. He might as well try.
Backing up a few steps, he leapt into the water, paddling automatically. The salmon swam offquickly, even as the cub attempted to chase them. Strating to tire, he swam back to the shallow waters. Finally, dranched and exhausted, he collapsed onto the shore. A breeze rippling through chilled his soaked bodice, causing him to shiver.

Shetan stalked silently through a small field, ears pricked and listening. Ahead, she could hear the gurgle of a river. Driven by a strong thirst, she trotted towards the sound. Occasional splashes resounded nearby, but she dismissed it as perhaps a small drop in the riverbed.
A groove of trees separated her from the river and as she came to them, she slowed her pace. Peering through the thick cover, she spotted the river along with something else. A canine she had never seen before was lying by the shore. Intrigued, Shetan watched, her orbs concentrating on the creature who was surely not wolf, but something closely related.
Making up her mind quickly, she stalked toward the river as if she had not seen the brute. Edging close to the bank, she lowered her head and sipped elegantly from the cool water.
